Thanksgiving Benefit 2008

Sequoia

Make a difference this Thanksgiving
Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. So, before you feast, join me in this special yoga class from 9:00 – 10:15 on Thanksgiving Day. This special donation only class has a suggested minimum donation of $15.

This is our annual benefit class. Last year' beneficiary was
NRDC whose purpose is to safeguard the Earth. Previous beneficiaries include the American Red Cross for their assistance during the fierce wildfires that ravaged our city; DATA who focus their attention in relieveing debt, AIDS and improving trade for Africa;and we raised money to benefit the earthquake victims in Pakistan and India through the IRC.

This year we are raising money closer to home and have chosen World Hunger Year (WHY) as the beneficiary of the event.

Founded in 1975, WHY is a leader in the fight against hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world.

WHY is convinced that solutions to hunger and poverty can be found at the grassroots level. WHY advances long-term solutions to hunger and poverty by supporting community-based organizations that empower individuals and build self-reliance, i.e., offering job training, education and after school programs; increasing access to housing and healthcare; providing microcredit and entrepreneurial opportunities; teaching people to grow their own food; and assisting small farmers. WHY connects these organizations to funders, media and legislators.[
WHY website]

Today's world is filled with challenges and complications both natural and man-made that lead to poverty and hunger. Let us never forget our responsibility to make a positive difference wherever we can.
