The 108 – Let’s do it for Nepal

108 SunSalutes at Infinite Yoga

Challenge of the Season – Are you up for it?

Summer Solstice Celebration
Sunday June 21st 4:30 – 6:00ish
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with 108 (yes, that’s not typo) SunSalutes, while raising money to help the children of Nepal.

108 is a very auspicious number in Hindu and Buddhist religions. There are 108 beads on a prayer mala, and 108 SunSalutes are performed at each Solstice and Equinox to herald the new season.

We’ll keep you motivated and smiling as Trevor counts the 108 accompanied by one of Dana’s great sound-tracks.

More about the Summer Solstice
The summer solstice occurs on the longest day and shortest night of the year, when the sun’s daily maximum elevation in the sky is the highest. Since the summer solstice lasts only a moment in time, other terms are often used for the day on which it occurs, such as “midsummer”, “the longest day”, “the shortest night” or “the first day of summer”. The seasonal significance of the summer solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of days and shortening of nights.

Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied among cultures, but most recognize the event in some way with holidays, festivals, and rituals around that time with themes of religion or fertility.

Solstice is derived from the Latin words sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still).

Proceeds
This is a donation class with all proceeds going to the charity: UNICEF Nepal Relief Fund.

Two devastating earthquakes in Nepal have claimed more than 8,000 lives and destroyed countless homes. Children face an unprecedented emotional toll as they deal with the devastating consequences — and with 5,000 schools damaged or destroyed, more than 1 million are without classrooms.

UNICEF is on the ground working to reach 1.7 million children and their families with critical aid.
